    Default Computer Chips

I am looking for either a

AMD Athlon XP 2800+ for Socket A or AMD Athlon XP 3000+ for Socket A.

I have googled and can't seem to find any other than used on ebay.

Anyone know where I can try, my current chip is running at 90 degrees Celsius and keeps shutting my PC down, thought I would just get another chip rather than a whole new PC or Mother board and get the maximum one my board allows as a bit of an upgrade.

My board is an Asus A7N8X Deluxe

    Cheers

Before buying a new processor have you tried resitting the cpu fan with some new thermal compond?

Have u checked the fan on the CPU cooler is working and as neilshaw1980 has suggested reseating the fan with new thermal compound.

By the way these cpu's were discontinued ages ago so the only place you will get one at a reasonable price is ebay

I've got a whole spare PC built around one -don't really want to break it, though. The Socket A version seemed to only be out for a short while, as I remember grabbing one from Ebuyer along with my current motherboard.

Haven't yet no, is it something I could buy separatly.

I though about getting a new PC at first then though it might be easier to upgrade my chip (I currently have a AMD Athlon 1250Mhz) to the best the motherboard will take as I like everything else it offers.

    Cheers

Have you tried settings the BIOS to see what temp the shutdown is set to? could be a problem with the motherboards components such as a stray capacitor, best thing to do take it to local computer shop get a once over and they will advise, many things can go wrong inside a PC so replacing a core processor isnt always the result

If the fan has gone then yes you replace it along with the cooler
