Default How do I remove the light switch assembly?

Hi, can anyone help me with removing the light switch assembly? The one with the rotary headlight switch. It appears that is must come out into the car, rather than pushed back through the panel. I've slipped a thin steel rule in along the top and bottom edges but I can't seem to feel any clips. I can't get anything in on the left and right side. I need the switch assembly out so I can get to the screw behind it that holds the trim panel on.

    TIA

Press in the knob, turn to the right and then it just pulls out

I think you need to turn it into the sidelight position and push the rotary knob in. It then releases it so you can pull it out. Its a bit tricky as I think you need to push the knob and pull the unit.

The catches are at the top and the bottom. Before I found out about doing the above I used 2 thin blade screwdrivers, its fiddly and works!

Just keep pushing the knob in as you turn it. You'll soon get the feel of how it works although as said can be fiddly.

As said above, when switch is in off position, push the knob in & turn to sidelight position.
You can then pull the switch out.
When refitting, get switch assembly flush with dash, then turn switch back to off position. This locks switch assembly back in position.

    Eek

Ok, I pushed in the light switch and turned it to the right, and it came out exactly as described, so far so good. Now to remove the trim panel I had to disconnect the blue connector from the back of the switch, no problem. Then I replaced the blue connector exactly as it was but now with the ignition off I can't get any lights. Worse still, when I turn the ignition on the headlights come on and I can't switch them off, whatever the light swith position is. I had the ignition switched off when I disconnected and reconnected the plug. Help !
