Default Advice on buying a Vectra please

    Hello,

I'm seriously considering buying an SRI with the 150 CDTI engine, and was wondering if you kind folks could suggest things that I should be on the lookout for as far as problems go when looking at cars. I'm new to vauxhall's so advice would be useful.

I've been considering an SRI Astra, but i've been put off by the huge number of people who get recurring problems with the Column Intergrated Module. Does that problem exist with the Vectra?

I have read through a lot of the Technical threads already, so I'm reasonably 'up' on how the vectra is (very impressive), but could always use some more pointers.

I'm looking to spend £10k or less.

    Thanks.

There is much info on the forum on all the pros and cons for the Vectra.

My advice would be decide what your after and buy the best you can afford

Fairly standard advice, I know, but think of it this way -

Do you want the bells and whistles, inc Leather?

If so choose an Elite, or Design if you can live without the leather. You can add these items to any model, but you will be chasing all the same parts as the rest of us.

Also, you say you want a Diesel, so did I, until I realised I could get a Petrol so much cheaper, that even doing 30k miles per annum, it would take 2-3 years minimum to break even

All basic stuff, I know, and the guys with the 1.9's will advise you on the specific pros and cons of these. My experience tells me the 2.0 DTI (too old for the money you have) is a sound workhorse that just needs a little more oomph, and the 2.2 Direct I have now is a cracker. Enough power, and not too heavy on juice.

The petrols are pretty bullet-proof as well and as well as this site, there's the z22se website dedicated to the 2.2 petrols (Both Direct and Non-Direct) So there's plenty of help.

The Same as H11LGX, I wanted a Diesel as I'd had 2 TD cars before it and thought I'd never go back to petrol. My choices at the time with my car was to have an 11 month old Network Q 1.8 with 14,250 mls on the clock or an late 03 plate 2.2 DTI with 48,000 mls on the clock for the same money.

Given the smaller mileage I do now,at the time, to get a 1.9CDTi 120 the same age as my 1.8, it was 3k more, and it was 3k I didn't have to spend!
