    Default Hmmm....Insurance

Been thinking recently about the vectra rear brake thing (about how quick they wear out) and decided when they need replacing I might just go all out and replace the whole lot for a full set of EBC ultimax brakes with 'green stuff' pads. Technically this makes my car 'modified', so are my insurance company going to charge me the same as chavboy with his focus covered in flashing led's and a bit of drainpipe for an exhaust?

Just call them, and notify them that you have been advised by a m echanic to upgrade the brakes. I really cannot see it being an issue mate

If you are just using aftermarket pads & discs, then no need to tell the insurance. There's no difference between using EBC Green stuff and the el cheapo pattern fit parts from your local motor factor.

You only need to tell them if you change the sizes of the discs.

As above, thought it said you are putting bigger disks on.

If your changing the brakes, and is just a different brand, then its not a modification.

Just checked, and the discs are 285 front and 278 rear, which I think is the same as the originals. Just the ultimax are designated 'sport slotted'.

Have you just got the K&N panel filter or the induction kit? If it's just the panel filter then there was no way your insurers would ever have found out it about other than you telling them - no insurance engineer visiting a damaged car at a bodyshop to agree costs, or at a salvage yard to calculate the market value, is ever going to bother opening the airbox to see what's lurking inside. Hats off to you for honesty, but most people wouldn't have mentioned it and would get away with it no problem.
