Default Pink back to red again, I know its an astra not a vectra

I just thought I would post this on here, I'm sure there are people that have red Vectra's and have been told that there is nothing that can be done about this problem of red single stage paint fadeing in the sun and oxidisation. Our local dealer uses it as an excuse to sell supaguard.

So the car is a 51 plate Astra, it faces the same way all the time and the sun has bleached the passenger side more than the drivers side. It recient had some work done to the tailgate and the bodyshop polished a few inches on to the roof. I had offered to clean the car up for the owner before the work but they were not unhappy with the way it was. I think the difference on the roof highlighted the problem a little. i was giving my car a wash and they asked whe I was doing theirs so I said tomorrow I would make a start and I did, time is tight so its a few hours at a time so I will keep the thread updated as I go along.

Products used, Meguiars G220, meguiars yellow polishing pad, meguiars #80 speed glaze, 3m 25mm and 50mm masking tape and dodo juice banana armour to top it off.

I'm not sure why the plastics dont fade, only the metal panels fade.

Only a slight change in colour on the drivers side, the fuel cap cover shows it best

    Where the body shop stoped

Test section, masked off to give an enhanced effect showing the difference

    bonnet almost finished

    Front passenger wing

    half way

almost done, It was getting late and seeing was very dificult so I missed the bits in the creases. i will sort them out next time.

the pad turned red after half the bonnet and needed cleaning, I cleaned it again after the whole bonnet and this is the result of the 2 wings.

See I told you it was dark, taken without flash.

That's impressive. The red Astra that we just traded in had gone the same way. It seems to be a known issue with that paint, but it doesn't happen until the car's 4 or 5 years old, so VX aren't bothered. I'll be interested to see the final result!

LJ used Megs #80 which is a light cut polish. Not many detailers use T-cut.

    Superb job BTW.
