Arrow New veccy - Just due a service?

    Hi all ,
Recently just bought an 04 Vectra 1900 TDi (well my dad did!) So new to Veccys and new to here!

Only my third car - have been used to driving a 2.0l petrol mondeo for the last year so its a bit of a change.

Just a quick question about the "Spanner light" that appears on the dash.

Is that just telling me that the next service is due? The SH says 122k and its on 121k atm (high mileage i know, but for a diesel it should last - hopefully!)

Or is it something more serious like an EM fault?

    Thanks in advance,

    Joe.

if the spanner appears through an oil can - then its service interval has zeroed - not necessarily service is due though as the Veccy's service warning system is manual and needs to be reset by the driver. But have it serviced anyway then search for "reseting service interval" on this site.

If the spanner appears through a car instead of an oiling can then there is a recorded fault code.

If the car is not limping - then dont panic there has been a fault and the engine has corrected it, the light will stay on until the car has been started 25 times.

You have 1.9CDTI is it the 120 or 150? If you can't tell the 150 has the red TI.

Most people on here with that engine have had that light on at sometime in their ownership of the car. If the car is not 'lacking power' I would not get worried, the light will eventually go out.

The car doesnt seem to be lacking power - And it should be limited to 45mph if it's in "Get you home mode" should it not?

The light doesnt stay on all the time, it went off today after about 10 minutes of driving.

How do i tell the model sorry? Whats a TI? (Sorry complete novice - had the car for 5 days and know nothing about cars in the first place!)

Thanks again for the quick response.

On the back of the car on the metal strip it will say; 1.9CDTI on the right hand side

If this is completely silver you have the 120PS version and if the 'TI' is red it is 150PS - 1.9CDTI.

If the light is going out after driving a while then it has a stored fault code - but no fault it will remeber it for 25 starts after the fault has cleared.
