    Default Tracking question.

'Er indoors Getz was pulling to the left and suffering some inside edge tyre ear on the nearside, so I've just took it in and had the tracking done. Man in overalls said it was one and a half degrees out!

They also swapped the tyres left to right. It's now pulling marginally to the right. I'm thinking the wear on the (cheapish) tyres could be causing that.

Informed opinions please (Marc...where art thou )

old tyre fitters answer to this one.....

in short it's the way the tyres have been constructed in the factory..the way the belts have been laid up affect the tyres behaviour and the cars handling..

the fact that the 'pull' moves with the front tyres substantiates the tyres as the problem, not the tracking.. However the wear on the inner edges shows that wheel to be toeing out too much..but i'd expect a slight toe like that to not have scrubbed the tread off wide a section...are the tyres wearing level across the tread other than that?..

I'd lay good money on a new set of 'quality' tyres rather than budgets completely curing the fault...in fact another old tyre fitters trick is to turn the tyres round on their rims if they are not directionals...this makes them run backwards and normally cures it if they aren't worn out of shape...

all you need now is a quality tyre fitter to know the above any you're laughing..

Yep. Only marginal wear on the inner edge of the tyre. Wearing evenly other than that.

That'll teach me to try and save on tyres. As it's only used around town, thought I'd save a few quid. I should've known better.

    Cheers Marc

no probs Paul... if they're not directional rotate them on the rims before condemming them..
