    Default More Expense

Early hours of this morning, i get a nudge from her who must be obeyed, first i thought i was in luck until she said be quiet can you hear water and i mumbled something like its raining go back to sleep. At that point i was pushed out of bed to find the problem, im not my best when i get up so i bumped in to every bit of furniture in the bed room and went in to hall way where i could hear water and opened the airing cupboard and water was coming out of the boiler, to which i said in a loud voice ohh F**k and then had to go down stairs to fight with the dog which thought it was playtime as i was on my hands and knees trying to turn the water off under the sink.

Well the plumber has been and it appears i need a new boiler fitted at the cost of £1500 and have a new tank as well.

So she said get it done, so now i have no spare money for new wheels, new stereo or anything else.

So any donations of a nice set of alloys wheels would be very nice. Roll on payday or a lottery win.

I can prob use the house insurance for the bit of the ceiling damage but with the excess it would be cheaper to do it myself but not the boiler.

Blimey, you managed to get a plumber in quick!

Has he said specifically what's wrong with the boiler? Has a specific part failed (that could be replaced) or has the casting gone?

Just trying to save you money for your alloys...

I had a tank leak a few years back, claimed for new ceiling + bedroom carpet - house ins went sky high the following year so we switched!
as it happens my old boiler (no, not the wife!) packed up & I had a combi installed last week...no more water tank in the loft (well, its still up there, but empty!) & no more emersion tank...much better!

I got the plumber in so quick as its my mates son, who had a look before he went in to work today, but wouldnt be able to do it on the side (cash)as he has so much other private work waiting to be completed. He reckons as the bolier is about 12 yrs old and that the casting is knackered, it would be better to have a new one fitted.

Go for a combi boiler as its a lot less hassle and as moorlander says no tank in the attic or airing cupboard
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

Im hoping the gas bill (ok, they have gone up 20%) / usage will drop as now the hot water is on-demand, no more heating a full tank up..plus i have gone from a boiler like the op's (old & flakey) to a boiler thats 96.4% efficient , & i suppose the cold water not being stored in a tank will be a little heathier as well ?

Gutted but at least a new one will be more efficient.
