    Default Car Problems - Help?

So i set off back to blackpool from glasgow today in my shiny SRI, that i have had less than a week,

The bulb failure light was coming on and off intermittently, until eventually becoming solid. pulled over, checked all lights including reversing and break, and none of the bulbs are out.

So i continue onto the motorway, 40 miles down the road, at 75MPH, engine looses all power, and a car with a spanner through the middle pops up..

Believe this is limp home mode? No turbo, and wouldnt go above low revs. Looked it up in the manual and it says engine or transmission electrics serious fault, emergency engine settings engaged.

Car has been giving no symptoms of being poorly until today when these lights were coming on

AA come out and their tech2 wont read it.

Has gone back to Arnold Clark cause its still in their 1 month warranty. They have said it might just need resetting, but this needs to be a motorway car, so it needs to be reliable. Also this fault is not showing up now, once the engine was turned off and back on, it went off.

Any ideas anyone? dont want them just to reset it and nto fix it. AA couldnt find anything...

Really gutted about all this. Arnold Clarks after sales service is abismal!

When that happened to my CDTi it was the precursor to having the inlet manifold and swirl valve replaced. Not sure if the same applies across all diesel engines, I though it was confined to the commonrail units.

Bulb warning will more than likely be due to a dodgy connection - which bulb was it saying was faulty?

Given that it's a Bank Holiday weekend, they will only have a basic support service available
Their usual response will be to either send out the AA and fix at the roadside or tow you to the nearest repair agent, and depending on the warranty cover you have you will probably have to arrange a hire car yourself and then make a claim once the repair is completed

Which branch did you purchase from?
Have you spoken to the sales person yet?

    Right:-

Firstly the bulb out indicator. I had a similar and it turned out to be a bulb whos filament was making and breaking but not permanent open circuit. I took all bulbs out, checked the resistance and all seemed ok. So, in turn with each bulb, I shook the bulb, checked it again after a good shake and low and behold one bulbs filament was making and breaking with vibration. Once replaced, the bulb out indicator has never shown again. Maybe yours is a similar problem.

Secondly Limp Home Mode:- I had this twice in 2 days with my 1.9CDTi way back in Feb this Year. Each time after an ignition re-cycle, normal driving resumed. Checked with a code reader and no codes had been stored. Has never happend again and the cars performance has been fine in the last 6k miles so shrugs my shoulders.
