Default Steel wheels tyre size question

    Guys
    I need your advise

(apologies if this question has already been asked)

I have a facelifted 1.8 (Non VVT) Vecci (registered Feb 06 on a 55 plate)

It is the 'life' model and currently is fitted with 16" steel wheels and has Pirrelli P7 tyres in 205/55/16 H from the factory

I'm considering changing the tyre size to perhaps 215/55/16 V to get just a little more cornering bite and stability.

    But

I'm unsure if there are any width differences between the steel and alloy wheels and any other problems I may encounter.

Hopefully you'll provide your usual excellent and informative advise.

    Cheers

I had 215/55/16s on my DTI when it has the standard steelies on it so can't see why you shouldn't be able to upgrade to that size from your 205s.

Yep, both 205/55 and 215/55 are listed in the handbook, either will be fine

Hi I know from previous mods on cars and wheels is that a wheel will take 3 (yep 3) different sizes.
    I'll explain

    1. the standard size, usually the one it comesfrom the factory
    2. under size, usually 1 size smaller more to save on cost
    3. over size, 1 size bigger, should give the car more grip but usually more expensive

    hope this helps a little

I would have thought the better option would be to buy an alloy and tyre package sometimes works out as cheap and an easy upgrade/mod.

Your car would have been fitted with 215/55/16 W at the factory. 'V' rated tyres should be OK for that engine.

16" Steel and alloys factory-fitted with the above size tyres as standard.

Yes I thought thought the standard size is 215/55/16. I still have the structured steel wheels and thats the size of mine.

I've got 215/55/16 W on mine as standard. Whether or not you'll get the cornering bite you need, I can't answer not being able to compare.

Also, for example, if you overcook it and go in too fast around a roundabout, the Cornering Braking Control System (CBC) cuts in and tucks the front end back in and prevents understeer developing.

I just think with a 1.8, you'll not notice too much of a difference between the two sizes.

The 205's are generally less expensive too, as a lot more car manufacturers use 205's than 215's. ( not my opinion, but the tyre fitter I use)!!!!
