    Default 314mm Brake Caliper code..?

    Hi Peeps

For those who have done the 314mm saab supplied kit upgarde...

Just wondering, popped into VX to get some bolts and stuff,
On speaking to VX, they say they caliper casting should have code 971 and 970 one on each to reflect the left and right hand...
the kit i have has two 971's, albiet the nipple is located differently.

Are VX correct? or talking BS..

Will the thread to connect the brake pipes be the same?

    DOT 4 brake fluid?

cheers lads... was pretty sure before, now getting confused.

IIRC they are sided, although I don't know anything about markings. I believe when fitted the bleed nipple should be pointing up. HTH

    VX are having a 'moment'..

the calipers just need to be fitted with the bleed nipple upwards ( not like some members ) and the fittings are identical between the calipers...

DOT4 will be fine...avoid silicone DOT5.1 fluid at all costs...but DOT5 is okay..

silicone fluid doesn't mix or work well with the ABS pumps and the brake seals....

It's okay in brand new systems that have the seals to cope with it, but not as a 'drop in' replacement for cars filled with mineral based fluid..

thanks GSI... once again came to the rescue...

I understand the logic of having 2 codes one for left and other for right. but as the bleed nipples are located in oppisite sides of the caliper casting i thought i may be wrong. i even began to doubt myself, Im glad its not just me having the 'one of those days' every now and then!...lol

Do VX use dot4 from the factory...? i feel it maybe best just to use the same.

yep, VX fill with DOT4 , so even if you fill with DOT5 unless you do a TOTAL system flush the remaining DOT4 will only give the new DOT5 a rating of DOT4 anyway... ( if you follow)..

So, fill it with DOT4 and pressure bleed ( or vacumn bleed it)

the kit i got from the milton saab place did have a 970 and 971 caliper.. take the pads out and have a look at the arrows on them you may find that one set wont face forward as the pads supplies are directional ones we found this out when fiting my mates set who had 2 970 ones ., even though they fitted with both nipples to the top .one set of pads had arrows the wrong way
