    Default New car options

Looking at my options in terms of maybe changing my car next april. (wee bit away but have reasons for the timing and i want too make right choice)

i am now doing 60 miles a day to and from work and the 2.2 is costing me best part of £65-70 a week to run.

My options i fancy are as follows
    1) a 1.9cdti vectra / signum - would be my first choice for the size but as it will be a long term car for me i worry about the engine

    2) astra estate 1.7cdti - kindof covers the space issue and would be cheaper to tax etc and they can be had in better spec than some of the vecs

3)corsa 1.3cdti - some cracking deals around for these - 35quid tax and good economy just hard to get the spec i want as its all options

i am going to try and get a test drive of all at some point but if anyone has any advice /experiences i'd be grateful...

60 miles a day - 300 a week - 1200 a month. That's still only 14,400 a year... You sure you want to be changing to a diesel? Call it 15,000 to make it easy... Fuel costs for the year...

    Diesel
    15,000 miles @ 40mpg = 375 gallons
    1 gal = 4.54 litres
    375 gal = 1704 litres
    1704 litres @ £1.21 = £2061.84

    Petrol
    15,000 miles @ 30mpg = 500 gallons
    1 gal = 4.54 litres
    500 gal = 2273 litres
    2273 litres @ £1.09 = £2477.57

So that's only £400 difference over a year. I may be biased (because this is part of the rationale behind my decision to change) but I'd rather stick with petrol and avoid the numerous reliabillity issues with the CDTi engines.

Astra/Vectra/Signum 2.0T... You know it makes sense...

That's as far as you need to look Graeme, 400 quid to have yer knees on the dash and a blown turbo, maybe a better route would be a petrol Vectra cos they are soooo cheap now for a yr old one and LPG it.
