    Default New tyre's poll

Have been reading up on various thread,s about tyres and just wondered has any one ever done a pole on the various manufactures
as an example how do falken 452 compare to michelin pilot sports
bearing mind all the criterias:- performance, durability, price, availability,

so guys which tyres do you rate,
which ones did you consider to be overpriced
which ones dont last 5 minute,s
    which one,s were noisy
    best major brand tyre,
    best budget tyre etc

Goodyear NCT5s for durability (30k fronts/45k rears) although there are reports off duff batches that split. Being an "eco" tyre they are a hard compound therefore other tyres will be more grippy for "enthusiastic" driving.

We had Michelin Pilots on our Galaxy, from a price point of view the only was is down - not heard a bad report about them anywhere though.

Had falken 452's all round on the Omega V6, fronts went at just under 10k due to scrubbing, backs still goin strong at 13k, seem as good at gripping as the Conti's they replaced.

Pirelli P6000 - Urrrggghhhh, splurrgghh, noooooo.
Pirelli PZero Rosso - Stupid soft patterned band in the middle wears away too quickly, but v.good grip

Michelin PS2's - V.good mileage, V.good grip. Somewhat firm ride, plus scary price.

Conti SportContact II - They don't like it in very cold conditions for the first few miles, else pretty good. Standard fit on vxr. Also not cheap.

Conti SportContact III - Want some. Never driven.

Conti Premium Contact - work very nicely on the wife's Golf...

It's always horses for courses isn't it. I got lousy mileage out of these on my 01Y Mondeo 3 which had them from new. I switched to ContiSport Contacts which were much better for mileage.

With tyres you really so get what you pay for.

Goodyear Eagle F1 - superb. Can't fault them. Haven't tried the asymmetric style but apparently they're even better.

Toyo Proxes T1-R - superb. Stick like poo to a blanket. Softish, but still have 4mm on the fronts after 10,000 miles so should last a while longer yet.

Nankang NS-2 wouldn't have them again if they were giving them away! Not nicknamed 'Ditchfinders' for nothing...

I'd love to try a set of Pirelli PZero Rossi/Nero, and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2, but they're just priced way out of my budget. I think, given what I've read here and on other forums, I'll be giving the Falkens a try with my next set of wheels.

Michelin Primacy HP's Love 'em, just about to put my second set on the SRi and will be changing to them on the SXi once I've worn some of the rubber off the Goodyear Excellence that are on it at the moment, they're supposed to be second only to the F1's but I hate them.

Used to love Goodyear tyres on my Mk III Cav, but hate them on the Vecs, my old Vec B slid around the road on them until I changed them for Michellins and my Vec C SRi estate which came with NCT5's on as standard was like driving on ice most of the time until I switched to the michellins when suddenly I found it would grip the road after all.
