Would i notice any difference if i renewed my 4 215/50/17 tyres with 4 225/45/17 tyres? Apart from the spare cash i'd have left over? Is it recommended? Any opinions welcomed.

You shouldn't find any real difference, but if you are replacing NCT5's you'll probably find it rides quieter and you'll have better steering feel (at least I did when I changed to Goodyear Excellence's from NCT5's).
The only main difference is the 225/45 R17 looks skinnier and increases the gap between the tyre and wheel well
There may also be handling and performance differences, depending on what you replace the original GoodYear NCT5 with
The bigger 'footprint' with the extra width of the 255's should in theory give you more grip, providing of course that you replace your 215's with tyres of equal or better quality.
Your speedo will be slightly more inaccurate. ie, it will show a slightly higher speed than you're actually travelling at.
Plug the sizes into the tyre calculator (points to the sticky posts up above).
As already said, get rid of the NCT5's and the handling will improve. I changed mine to the Goodyear F1 GSD3's.
I've just got rid of the NCT's in favour of 225 45 17 Vredestein Ultracs, the ride is quieter, handling is is more precise and the grip in both wet and dry is superb.
Go for it!
where can I get Vredestein Ultracs from?
Cheers guys think i'll be going ahead with it. The tyres on my spare wheels could be doing with getting replaced in time for the winter (i'll be taking Snowflakes off) and the cars first MOT. I've had Vredsteins on a couple of cars over the years and couldn't fault them so i'll maybe give them another go.I'll probably be able to get 4 quality tyres(225/45/17) for what it'd cost for 3 215/50/17Goodyear NCT's.

You'll also notice the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric are £86.50 each. I have my eyes on these.
