    Default New head unit question...

Its time to change the head unit in my car, as I cant risk getting seen changing Ipod tracks / holding ipod whilst driving (its as bad as holding a moby phone)

I have a Connects2 Interface box for Sony head units which integrates with the OBD and steering controls, so my question is....

Does anyone have a Sony Head unit they can recommend which has Direct iPod control (control ipod from headunit) and also bluetooth if poss?

My thoughts are to connect the unit to the Connects2 unit, which Im hoping will allow me to control my ipod from the steering wheel controls, and display head unit data (current track) onto the Vecy's OBD.

Considering this at the moment unless someone has a better alternative

That unit looks ok, I also have a connects2 control box for the steering controls & display.

The Sony head unit I have doesn't have an Ipod input.
I have a sony 20gb walkman connected to a Sony XA300 aux input selector.
This works through the stereo, but I have to select tracks on the walkman.

A guy at work with the same walkman has just bought a unit like the one you have spotted, it plugs in the front using the USB lead. It charges it & lets you control walkman all from headunit.

I use Pioneer head unit with Ipod control built in. Definately the way to go.

Couldn't stand having to manually change tracks on my ipod.

Can't comment on Sony head units as i've always stuck to Pioneer.

I've just stripped all the gear out of my bm, get my Signum tomorrow, so i need to purchase a Connect2 thing for vauxhall to pioneer.

What Pioneer unit do you have Dan, and does it have bluetooth also? How do you rate Pioneer as personally ive always been a Kenwood man. Only considering Sony as I was given this connects2 box and it saves me spendin 40 odd quid on another!

Im not sure whether to buy a head unit with built in bluetooth handsfre, or get one of the parrot kits seperately.

I have the Pioneer DEH P6900IB.

It has bulit in IPOD control and even came with the IPOD cable. In my bm i had these routing to the glove box where I kept the Ipod.

It doesn't have built in bluetooth. That was what I was originally looking for, but after reading a lot of reviews, it was apparant that the built in Bluetooth handsfree is not the best (atleast on pioneers). So I installed a Parrot LS 3200.

I have been very happy with the Parrot kit, had it for 2 years now with no problems.

The hardest part was getting all the wiring to squeeze into the dash board as I had the BMW Connector going into the Pioneer converter, going into the bmw steering wheel controller, going to the Parrot controller and finally into the head unit.

Ps. forgot to answer your other question. I've only ever had Pioneer head units, and have been very happy with them.

Can't comment too much on other makes as I've only used them in friends cars. If im honest i've never seen or used a Sony HU that I have liked.

If I had to change to a different manufacturer it would probably be Alpine, as they sound good and I like the look of them.

After a phonecall to Bass Junkies in Willenhall this morning Im gonna go down there this afternoon after work and buy one of these:
    http://www.bassjunkies.com/?pid=3347...&source=search

Will also get the facia adaptor (dont know what colour I need - any idea) and a Amp wiring kit so I can put my amp and sub in.

This unit will allow me to use my Connects2 box so I have steering wheel control over iPod and also display current playing track on the Vecy OBD

    Just an update...

I went to bass junkies to buy the kit I was after, asked for a demo of the head unit, and with my ipod in hand said "lets see how it contols ipod then". Oh... this wont work an iPod says the salesman. Grrr

After finding out they had no solutions for me I left, a little pi$$ed off at having left work 2 hours early for nothing.

Came into work this morning and have ordered:
Sony CDX GT828U CD/MP3 Player + iPod Adapter
    Connects2 Anthracite Facia adaptor
    Amplifier wiring kit.

    Total cost £163inc postage.

Should be here in a few days so will be fitting next week and im hoping it will work with my steering controls and display via my connects 2 unit.

Will post pics once all installed

    Cool nice one.

I hate waiting for things to be delivered though.

I ordered my Pioneer from Car Audio Centre. I initially ordered a different one, and it never arrived. So after a few days I phoned them only for them to tell me they had no stock and it had been discontinued.

But they were more than happy to take my payment online, and then not inform me that the product wasn't even available. Ended up paying another £40 for a different model, and had to wait another 2 or 3 days.

    Grr..

..Anyway, make sure you get them pics up when u get it fitted.
