    Default Air lock?

Hi guys got a question about my mothers 04 2.2 DTI estate any help would be much apreciated.
She ran out of fuel must have been four months ago now my dad removed the first injector pipe and turned engine until the air was out of the system but its never been right scince. The car starts fine but then after maybe 5 to 10 seconds it splutters and dies and then takes a couple of minutes of winding it over to get it going and its fine for the rest of the day it just seems to be that initial first start of the day?Could it still have air in the fuel system or is it something more serious?

Cheers in advance for any info

when you say pipe you mean the metal one or the rubber one ..stands a chance he has damaged the small rubber hose as it is hard to get a spanner on with it there ..not much in way of cost just need to change them all...

Not sure what one it was i that was just what he told me he had done. How would that pipe being damaged cause it to cut out though if it was split there would be diesel leaking from it wouldnt there?
Cheers for the suggestion i will go up tomorow and have a look at it and see if its ok.

I think this engine would be self bleeding ?
Maybe purge the pump or pour fuel into filter housing , should'nt imagine having to start disconnecting injector pipes etc

i think you'll find the fuel goes back to the pump not back to the tank as on older diesels, so if the pipe is damaged it will return air directly to the pump hence crappy start up! replace the rubber leak off pipes first and go from there. never bother bleeding modern diesels just fill up and crank, with rests in between as not to overheat the starter motor, i even put derv filter in dry and crank never had any probs with any derv motor when service'ing or running out of fuel.

Unlikely to be injector high pressure line air leak, as you'd get diesel leaking when the engine is running due to the very high pressures involved. More likely injector leak off pipe (small rubber pipes going from injector to injector) I had this problem with my old 2.0DTi, crank and run for a few seconds, then stop. Only way to re-start was to crank and crank - and I'd see white smoke out the back aswell before it finally went again.

Was always worse when i parked on an incline, nose up.

I know this is an old thread lol her car is still doing this she has been parking on the road where its level and its been fine so she put it back on the drive which is quite steep (car sits nose up) and its started playing up again. The symptons are exactley the same as yours Ste so will have a look at the leak off pipes tommorow.Did you manage to cure your problem by replacing the leak off pipes?

    Cheers Stuart.
