    confused Speed Traps...?

Hi guys, think I might have been caught by a speed camera on a country road... I was coming back from Milton Keynes to Northampton via the back roads rather than the M1. I had my cruise control set to 65 (I know the limits 60!) and I was coming over a hill, then obviously down it... as I did the car picked up speed, then I noticed the Police Camera Van hidden amongst the tall grass parked on the verge at the side of the road... (He must be getting at least 50% of cars going over that hill today!) I hit the brakes... SO ended up doing about 55 approx 150 to 200 metres away from the van, maybe a little further... I'm not going to try and deny it to myself, guessing that I was caught as they must have a good range on them. I'm not bothered about that, it's MY OWN fault and I accept that I was a kn*bber.

I was just wondering how long does it take to find out if you were caught and is there anyway of finding out sooner? (Any lovely Police type people out there fancy looking at there shiny computers? LOL) Also, does MK run the motoring awareness course instead of handing out fines for first offense'?

    Cheers for reading...

You just have to wait for the letter, as far as I know. For that small amount over the limit, it'd probably only be a fixed penalty (if anything).
Letter will arrive within three weeks - after that, you must have got away with it.
And yes, it's no good slowing down when you've seen it - they always see you first from a long way away.

    Quite few operational requirements
Sadly, in most cases they'll see you before you see them
I would doubt any action would be taken, even if doing 70mph in a 60mph zone, what they are looking for is "excessive speed" and they are not allowed to target each and every vehicle that enters the area under observation, the vehicle must CLEARLY be seen speeding

Just a note, the disclosure notice comes first and is sent the Registered Keeper
If that's not you then it can be a further 6 weeks before the driver gets notification

don't forget your cruise set '65' is probably near 62 as all speedos over-read to account for tyre wear. 62 in a 60 is not going to earn you a ticket.

hi, if you want some info about what happens next, pop to pepipoo.com this will answer any concerns you will have, and whilst you cant rely on it nowadays its 10% +2mph is the gneral rule of thumb they take action against as you have to allow for the speedo.

Also to try get away with it you can request the gun or camera calibration details, im not sure exactly how often they should be calibrated but im sure i heard somewhere it was daily before use...

EDIT: Forgot to say, yes MK does have the course thingy

Most safety camera partnerships put the calibration certificates on their websites now
Most devices only need to be calibrated once a year, but it does vary by the type approval
A calibration and check should be carried out at regular intervals, varies by force, but the minimum is monthly
They do this by driving a vehicle towards the camera at a constant speed at or near the speed limit for that zone, repeating this at least twice
Older types still need to be checked and calibrated before use and at the end of use

Have you not got a TOM TOM or similar ?,down load all camera types onto it from that well known site,or get a road angel, forwarned is forarmed as they say.
I do know that the mobile gun range [as used by essex traffic] is 999.9 yards.
