    Default Decisions, decisions

I've been mulling over this for about three weeks now, need to make a decision shortly

I am currently the Regional Director for a company I started up myself in the late 1990s
It's grown so large that my involvment over the last three years has been a lot less than I had hoped for, and more recently I suspect that I have been hidden in a corner away from the main decisions
I managed to miss three key meetings over the last 18 months, someone arranged them on the same day, and there was no way I was going to be able to attend them all

Two months ago I got a phone call out of the blue from a company
I thought it was a hoax, asked them how they got my number, and never heard anything more
A few days later I got a letter, with an apology from the company that had actually been trying to contact me
They wanted to arrange a meeting, which in itself I thought was unusual, but I agreed

Turned out they were actually looking for me to move to them
They had managed to work out, with some great deal of accuracy, what my earnings were for the last three years and wanted to offer me a package, enhancing and improving what I currently have

The are pros and cons between staying where I currently am and taking up their offer
At the moment I can pretty much work as and when I want to, in this new company it would be about 4 days a week over 40 weeks
However, it does mean going back to working for a company, something I've not really done for the best part of 15 years...

Personally I'd stick with being your own boss. Too many variables working for someone else.

Not like you not be undecided though.

I stopped being my own boss after I went from sole trader to Limited company in 1995
I had to do that to get two contracts
The company then expanded at an enormous rate, I then decided in 2002 to sell to a larger multinational
I have retained an equivalent share holding (by value)
As a result of that I have had a smaller role in this multinational, but I still I have a lot of control locally
I now feel like I am running one of their franchises, it's "my" company under their branding

Furthermore, the company hasn't been very successful in gaining any new contracts, and I almost knew that based on the model being used we weren't going to be awarded them

For tax reasons I don't currently receive a salary, so if I do move to another company I will almost certainly be paying full whack tax, but the package on offer takes that into account

Those are personal interests, some of which come under that company
I also own part-own other companies
The deal and agreement is that I give all that up and concentrate solely on one company

I would still retain the properties, they are all in my own name
I own five properties and let the other four out

The petrol station business is part-owned
Arrangements are already well advanced for me to leave that company, something which I had already planned several months ago (there's just no more money to be made in it any more)

As for garage owner, I've never owned or operated a garage, don't know where that came from

Difficult one, I think your new offer is a false dawn, as they seem to know so much about you it stinks of get him off our hands and then you can dump him later as business is slow.
