Default Speakers - Coaxial or components

I've been reading alot of threads about people changing speakers, speaker depths, removing door cards etc.

But has anybody actually changed the speakers. I'm looking to upgrade but not sure if I just replace the main speakers with coaxials or replace the tweeters too. If i replace the tweeters, where will i get sizes, fitments etc.

and also how to crossovers work, how do I install them ?

also does anybody know where I can get speaker adapters for the vectra c

Component speakers will perform better, as coaxials will also have a tweeter attached to the centre of the speaker , and this will conflict with the OE tweeter.

Crossovers are a simple box that for a two way system, will have three sets of connections: one input, one low pass output and one high pass output. They split the signal highs to the tweeter and mids / lows to the woofer.

So one goes to the tweeter and the other to the main speaker.

Also do you know if I can put a different tweeter in the space of the original one, or can I just wire the crossover up to the one thats there already ?

Just took the door cards off to have a look behind. easy enough gettin off, but what a mission getting them back on again.

Speaker sizes looked 165mm both from and back, is this correct.

I've had a look at some speaker adapter kits i think its SAK-2902 by autoleads.

Yes, they are 165mm. Just had the front mids changed under warranty and there is definitely more bass kicking in the new ones and they sound a lot sharper too. The old ones were 18 month old. Maybe Vx has a better spec on these speakers now or does the sound quality degrade over time, I don't know. Maybe someone will pop up and put me straight.

Just to add, some component setups have a high pass filter built into the woofer, so you wire up the woofer as normal, then from the specified connections on the woofer you run wires upto the tweeter, this can save space and ease of wiring

I used to have a sub and amp, pheonix gold. very nice, but had it running on a kenwood HU, I though it sounded ****e so I took it all out and sold it, I found out later that Kenwood are not the best for bass.

So I'm rebuilding again, wiring is all still there. Need to get a set of rear speakers first, the the subs.

before i go about changing the speakers etc,

Does anybody know if the veccy stereo comes with built in crossovers ?

I noticed the tweeter and main woofer are wired to the stereo direct rather than going through a crossover box type thingy.

I have a pioneer aftermarket HU installed does this mean that the tweeters now have a direct feed, e.g. not through any kind of crossover ?

Also when I wire in my new set do I take the main speaker wire and put it into the crossover then wire the tweeter and woofer from this, or do I leave the crossover out and connect both to the existing wiring ???

    I'm very confused
