You don't really need it. It is just there to reduce engine noise (I'm assuming you have a diesel)
Mine came loose after hitting a pheasant on my previous Vec-C.
The cost to replace it was £170 for the cover and then refitting.
VX do do a hardened version for something like £300, but the best way to keep it on the car is to use tie-wraps instead of the screws.
Make sure that when you have it serviced, that the 'technicians' put all the screws back in - and do them up tight!

I think the 3.0 v6 CDTI has this, as it is in three parts and when mine was broken they had terrible problems sourcing the correct parts that fitted

Vectras are well known for poor mounting and location points under the vehicle
The heat shield bolts are usually the first to go
Simple solution is to remove each bolt, insert a large washer, and replace the bolt

or, rip it off as it was only ever fitted to make the car meet EC drive-by noise regulations...and thats all...

if it's not there it affects nothing on the car and the noise is only marginally more..

Mine tore as I did an oil change, I saved it from complete detachment but the VX mechanic who did the next *for the book* service managed to tear it in two and then tuck it up so I wouldn't notice, not until I hit a bump and heard it scraping along the road, took it back and was told it was already ripped *which was 50% true* and they could replace it for 160 if I wanted, reply not suitable for posting.
