Default oil leak? horrible burning smell! help.

    hello guys. please help
i own a vectra sxi 2.0 dti (2003). i have just been driving up and down some streets viewing houses, when i started to smell a really horrid buring smell. i pulled over and checked under the bonnet and all i can see is what looks like some sort of oil leak as shown in the picture i took. the car seems to run fine.
any help would be greatly appreciated! and how much it'll cost to fix. thanks

    adam

It could well be the oil feed pipe to the turbo that is either loose at the Bajo connection(the Bolthead in your pic) or it may have fractured, which will need a new pipe.

I'd check the banjo fitting is tight first, just nip up, don't overtighten as the banjo may shear, if it is the pipe there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to change it yourself.

does look like a lot of fresh oil...if the banjo union is tight, steam clean the turbo off and see if the leak reappears...if it's from the joint between the bearing housing and the intake compressor housing then it's going to have to be a new turbo..

ok, its not from the banjo. i have cleaned it all and so far has not reappeared however still stinks.

the leak actually looked as if it was coming from the black rubber pipe (the one with the 2 jubilee clips) as in picture.

the car has only done 39,000 miles so i'd be very hacked off if it requires a new turbo as they are about £800.

    they're much cheaper than that......

take the hose off ( it's only some 7mm socketed clips) and see if there's much oil working its way round the hoses..

still no sign of any more leaks, however i realised my oil level was very low. so im thinking that the maybe the build up of pressure and lack of lubricant on sills caused it to leak?

    thanks for ya help
