    Default key fob puzzle

The old 3button key fob on my car was pretty badly mangled by the prev owner -- the microswitches for the lock/unlock were damaged. So I ordered and rcv'd a new switchblade.

But, I'd like to have another key as spare (car came only with one). So, I had bought a 3 button key fob from ebay thinking I could swap the top halves. But, dealer said the key could not be reprogrammed.

So, I thought I'll just graft the good microswitches from the ebay fob onto the old fob. That done (I can tell the switches work as the LED comes on) I took the key to the car, inserted into the ignition and pressed the lock to re-sync -- but I get nothing. Car will not even start with this key. I can still start it with the new switchblade, but the repaired fob does not work.

Any thoughts on what's going on here?

    TIA
    B

Not too sure, but the key could have been recoded to the car - or the car programmed to accept the key. I did the same for a third key. Got it off e-may and told the dealer it had just stopped working. They soon got it sorted

as Big Sig says. it needs coding to the car.. not a big job at all if you have the correct Dealer level equipment to do it..takes about 5 mins..

your problem is the immobiliser chip within the keyfob isn't being recognised by the car..

I think there is a mis understanding here.

Are you saying that the original key fob (that used to work but had dodgy switches) now no longer works after you fitted new switches into it? (from the bought one from a different source)

If so, I would guess that soldering the new switches onto the little board has damaged some component on it.
