Eek Scared of a £1000+ bill on a 2007 car?

hi, as a few have probably read, i've had a slight rumbling sound coming from the engine bay for few months now. The car is a 1.9 1550 cdti with 38k on the clock.

Been back to dealer this time with me driving. The engineer too heard the sound but cant put a finger on it. He agreed possible DMF as the can vibrate when worn. He advised me to book the car in for 3 days for them to look at it further.

When i was booking it in the service manager asked me to sihn a concent form to say go ahead with the work but then added "if its not a warranty item im left with the bill "

My answer was "so your telling me i could have to pay for this ever 38k?"
he had no answer apart from the dmf could be a manufacturing fault.

spoke to vx customer services, there as much help as a chocolate fire guard!!!!! only answers they gave me was " sorry sir, i dont know" hahahah

Any one else had this sort of problem?

This noise only seems to do it in gear, but im sure its done it in neutral too?noise does stop when clutch is pressed down tho.

If it was to be the clutch, would this be under warranty?

Im starting to feel sick..... Never another vauxhall.....

    3 warranty claims on brakes
    2 EGR problems
    Air con problems
4 EML lights Starting to have enough. only 2007 reg 38k

I cannot see why it wouldn't be covered. Unfortunately all those faults you described are fairly common with the 1.9 150. So really you should be saying never another GM car with that 1.9 150 cdti engine in it

    (apart from the brakes)

i'm so glad they're dropping the 1900CDTi.... it's a marginal engine at best for parts quality..

the DMF should/will be covered under warranty...what they are doing is covering their backs in case they strip it and find it's not a warranty fault ( like worn out clutch plate) and VX won't stump it...

I'd call customer services, explain that you have a diagnosed failed DMF and that the dealer is asking for money even thou the car is under warranty.. explain that you are fully aware that it is a very common problem and ask them to intervene with the dealer to get them to waive all charges in your respect....

They're not asking for the money up front, only if the failure turns out not to be covered under warranty.

This is fairly common, but I would be checking what they are doing and comparing to the published times etc so you don't end up paying more than you reasonably should (if the failure turns out not to be covered of course).

TBH, from what you describe, it is unlikely that you will pay anything anyway, as the technician also heard the noises and has a theory on DMF

the dealers say that they aint ever had any notice of faults with DMFs haha.
fingers crossed , what ever it is, itll be under warranty then.

they did say that taking the box out is a last resort, but still worrying. just hope it goes bk agether properly lol should a be asking for a new clutch too if the dmf is replaced?

I think they have to replace the clutch if the DMF is also changed

Disgraceful attitude for a one-year old car with an obvious fault. IMO
