Default Vectra 1.9 CDTI SRI Nav Engine Misfire issue

    Hi there,

Just driving into work this morning and seemingly from nowhere a car with a spanner light appears on my dash and the engine starts to jerk and I experienced a loss of drive. This was at around 40 mph in 4th gear doing around 2000 rpm.

The light goes on and off and the engine shudders when it goes over 2000rpm or when I try to accelerate in too low a gear.

The car runs perfectly in idle or if I change into next gear before going over 2000rpm...

I have booked it into a garage tomorrow morning.

Can anyone here offer me some wisdom ahead of this to give me some ideas as to what the problem is, if its a known issue with this model, and how much it is likely to cost to repain in parts and labour?

Thanks and really appreciate your help.

    J

I have spoken to a garage and they think it could be the Air Mass Meter which I can probably change myself and it only costs about £75 - £100.

What would the Swirl Valve involve?

Also someone has suggested it could be an Injector... (Slightly more expensive so fingers crossed).

I will get teh engine fault code tomorrow so will know conclusively. Fingers crossed it will be the AMM.

Any more ideas guys? What with the Swirl Valve cost?

Also, I am getting my new BMW 325 M-Sport Coupe next month and I only need this car to be on the road to pass the inspection signature!!! Do I need to do something about this or can I nurse it around for another month?

If it only has to last a month then i would try and nurse it ......Especially as you can change gear and drive through the misfire !!!!!

Then its just a case of trying to get it past the inspection... Never had a lease inspection before.. Do they drive the car before they ask you to sign it off?

And after I sign the paper handing it back there is CATEGORICALLY no come backs to me?

As I can just say that there was no issue before I gave it back, it must have been coinsidence?

If it is the Air Mass Meter I will pay to change it, but if its more I will try to nurse it.

Any one with experiance think they know what it will be from my symptoms?

Yes it fell out of warranty 2 weeks ago...

    CLASSIC timing.

Unless the part which is faulty is covered under some other individual part garauntee or something... Which it wont be.

OK they cleaned the contacts on the injectors which is what the engine fault code indicated was wrong without replacing any of them...

All was perfect for 3 days and last night the same thing happened again.

Booked into the garage this afternoon...

Thinking an injector is broken and needs replacing alltogether... Anyone know how much an injector costs?

sorry to say but probaby not the injector.. wiring loom/plug to injector number 3 breaks down causing this jerking/misfiring problem. new loom needs to be spliced in. £150 for the kit or so i believe. Where abouts in London are you mate?

My Siggy had this loom/injector plug mod done ages ago and it certainly cured the misfiring/hessitation until now and its doing it again!
would they have used simply a replacement set of injector plugs and cut the old ones off and soldered the new ones onto the existing loom wires which seems to be what has been done? or has a modified plug been introduced to sort this any one know?
anyone got any pics of the mod?
most interested in any response to this as its getting well on my teets!
