    Default Not a battery problem?

Two or three times over the last year I have gone to get my car (1.8LS) out of the garage only to find a flat battery. I got my local garage check the car out and they advise nothing wrong with the battery or the car. I replaced the battery and everything was ok for 3/4 months then a flat battery. I have recharged it but I have not identified a root cause.

Last week I had a lengthy period sitting in my car with the ignition switched off waiting for a friend then out of the blue there was a click and the interior lights came on! This happened again about ten minutes later.

Has anyone experienced an unexplained flat battery and/or the interior lights coming on?

Thats Very weird, i have no idea where to start with that.

the only thing you could do really is check earth points,

itermittent faults are extremely difficult to find till somethinks does just go

when its gone its much eaiser to locate by tracing the power loss,

be interesting to put a voltmeter on the battery when it appears dead???
to see if it is dead or not other than that i have no idea sorry

The interior lights would flatten the battery, but it would take a while.

I sat in the car the other day for about 45 mins with the head lights on (forgot i'd switched then on) and the batt was flat. Luckily there was a slight hill, so had to bump it in reverse !!!!

Can't think what is going wrong though with the controller / relays..

Have you recently fitted a new ICE head Unit (Radio CD Player)?

My work colleague here fitted a new head unit in a vec-B earlier this year and the unit was faulty and that was flattening his battery.

    Just a suggestion...

Yeap If you do have a big ICE setup as John said that will shorten the batery life big time.

Many thanks for all your replies.

I have had the same radio/cd player since I got the car so I will assume it it is not causing the problem.

I was in the habit of turing the engine off and leaving the key in the ignition (in my garage) - would this have any effect?

I started removing the key two months ago to see if anything changes - it is too early to see if this will resolve the problem, but so far so good!
