The extra 1mm must be rust.

I too would like to upgrade the rears, for the looks as I understand they don't do much of the work.

If you are going to do the 292 rear upgrade you will need the discs, the carriers and if you dont have vented discs already on the rears you will need some more calipers or you will need to grind the pads down to fit and also trim the crap guard.

Take a look at this thread. The carriers are just wider to accommodate the 20mm wide vented disc rather than the standard carrier being 10mm wide for the solid disc.
    Works perfect.
PS Good look in finding the carriers as i had to wait 6 weeks for mine to made by Opel in Germany. Non at all in the UK.
I paid 75 quid for them from LMF

Several people have done it m8, it's a viable option. The only problem you may have is if you try to fit brand new discs AND pads with the old calipers - they're not quite wide enough.

If your pads are part worn they should fit OK with the new discs.

Plasma and I were in the middle of this job on my veccy and you need to take quite a bit off the pads. So im going to purchase a set of calipers as grinding half of the pads away seem a false economy.

Yes, they told me the same, when i got the discs and pads from them, unless you have the 2.0T 3.0 or the 3.2 you will need to slim the pads down or get some calipers.
