confused detailing world.. My head hurts...Where do i start?

Hi guys been looking round in the detailing world site. Im confused by all the products/stages.

I have a Met Black vectra which is 18 months old now. I want to spend a couple of days on it to get it looking its best again. What can you recommend in ways of products and stages?

Already bought some clay ready, wash mitt, 2 buckets with grill thing, snow foam+lancer. ALso got some scratch x as i have light swirls, only few tho. or would autoglym srp be ok for this.

So what order? i also want to give it a good wax/seal before winter is here?(think its close lol) Does a sealant go on before a wax?

Sorry but ive tried to read up my self but theres so much stuff out there its gone right over my head.......

Open a beer and sit down. No point in getting stressed about it all. I don't detail my car, it's lucky if it goes through the carwash every month or so.

Car wash god no!!! worst clean my car gets is ocassional jet wash (well rinse) or trip to the local foreign car wash (hand wash) car wash's just put stupid amounts of scratches which in turn destroy paintwork and reduce value of car.

Process with the products you have is:

    Clean wheels
    Snowfoam
    Wash
    Dry
    Clay
    Wash
    Dry
    Scratch X if needed.
SRP (This has abrasives, cleaners and fillers) Great product
    Seal. (See below)
    Wax. Two layers

You might want to dress the tyres because they will look dirty next to gleaming paintwork.

I now miss out the Sealent stage as I prefer to use a Glaze. So my routine is.

    Clean wheels (Megs wheel cleaner)
Clean Arches (Megs all purpose cleaner)
    Snowfoam
    Wash
    Dry
    Clay
    Wash
    Dry
    Polish (Megs #80)
    Paint Cleanser (Lime Prime)
    Glaze (Megs #7)
Wax. Colly 915 or Nattys Red.
    Seal wheels
Megs endurance gell for the tyres (Actually prefer the spray)
Megs All Season dressing for the arches.

You can see how the AG SRP does more than one job. If you don't have any wax or sealent yet and want to crack on (with something you can buy at Halfords) AG Extra Gloss Protection is a decent choice but you won't get the protection of a decent wax.

THe pro detailers don't seem to use a glaze as the paintwork after the polish will will be pristine but for us mere mortals and especially on a dark car it's my favourite product.

Inbetween just snowfoam, wash, dry and use a Quik spray wax to top up.

This is my (black) car following the full hit above.

or you could try the car wash.
