    Default Auto Box Update

Ok I've checked the level and it is very low , I can't understand this as it was checked a few months back by a mate a mine whilst he was workin on the car , maybe he read it wrong .
Any way the fluid is black in colour and looks well worn so I'm gonna drop it and replace tomorrow.
Also there is no contamination in the header tank thank god.
The question is , does anyone know the correct grade etc of fluid I need as I don't think I will be getting it from vx , cheers guys

use a good quality dextron II fluid... that will be perfectly fine in the box.... buy 5 litres, you won't use it all but it's best to have some by..

Gsi3.2 - I know you have a heck of a lot of knowledge on these cars, so this isn't intended as a smart ass comment. I have a vague recollection of reading about these autoboxes using a particular type of Vx appoved ATF. It stuck in my mind specifically because the article mentioned that you can't just use good old Dextron II. Apparently the 'slurred' operation of the lock-up clutch generates significant shear forces in the oil. I'm happy to be corrected, but it might be worth checking before you use the Dextron ATF.
