Red face Calling V6 owners for opinions (who have driven 1.9 150 too!? or vice verca)

    Hello Guys

I am due to be going to buy an 05 SRi 1.9 CDTi 150 on Saturday.

However, I got talking to Andrew (Abyss) last night for some time and he was speaking of the merits of the V6 CDTi.

I was hoping that I could get some feedback from other forum users that have owned or at least driven both and can make some comparison about the main differences between the two, and if there really is a significant difference?

Would also be interested to hear from some 1.9 150 owners who may have driven a v6 since and wish that they had gone for that instead!?

I have seen a low miler (6000) V6 but it is £900 above my budget so I am really not sure whether to try and stretch

Many thanks (I only have today and tomorrow to decide !)

    Rikki

    Hi ya mate

I'm a 150 owner, and I chose this engine for the balance between fuel economy and performance. The V6 is faster in standard form but you suffer with lower mpg. It depends what you value the most, performance or economy. I think the 150 has it about right.

The V6 does sound nice when you're driving it, but still sounds like a diesel from the outside. It's certainly a smoother drive than the 150.

The 150 is in my opinion a cracking car and if you want to it will show up supposedly more capable cars. You can hear the turbo when it's winding up which I love personally.

Tuned up (tuning box fitted or re-map) there's not much between these two cars on the road, and having driven both these in standard form and tuned, I would choose the 150 everytime due to it's much higher MPG. But as I say if mpg is not your priority then the V6 is very smooth and does sound nice from inside.

Thank you... that is a really helpful response.. just the kind of feedback I am seeking.

I have been swayed towards the V6 a little now but in all honesty I am looking for a nice balance between performce and economy.

I calculated that I could get perhaps another 100 miles per tank on the 1.9?

And it sounds like with a tuning box that this is still a v.capable car?

I also 1.9CDTi 150bhp SRi Estate and was tempted by the V6.

But I can't really put it better than Alex has above really. For the exact reasons as Alex I chose the 1.9 over the 3.0 due to I was buying a diesel for economy. And I reguarly get over 50mpg on mine. Compared to around 44-45mpg (Sometimes less) on the V6. Depends on your driving style. I get on a motorway, sit at 80mph most of the way with cruise control on. Did this to Manchester and back at the weekend and got 54mpg.

Though the 3 Litre does come better spec'd than the 1.9 as standard. Mine had everything thrown on it.

Brakes discs are bigger on the V6 mate, plus the V6 has a dual branch exhaust as standard.

You could always buy a petrol model - that way you'll not look tight!

Oh dear...did I really say that...

Whatever Vectra you get, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

    Talking

well ive had my V6 for hmmmmmmmmmm 7 days (of bliss) and i love the sound ,the comfort, the drive, the power ,and boy do i mean power. These cars are both fantastic, all AJA has said is spot on ,the 1.9 is a very capable car and too ,its power is awesome, but i prefer my V6. Im getting 44mpg at the mo ,but thats takin it easy..Now ive fitted a new Powerklick CRD Digital Box, it goes like hell..I wouldn't swap my "Turbo Tractor " for NOTHING...not when im blowing away scoobies...

    JUST MY OPINION>..
