Default Best and worst Insurance companies?

    Hi all.

Looking for a new insurance company as Elephant want £700 to renew even though we have 5 years no claims and 0 points !!!
I was wondering if you all could share your insurer experiences with me to help me decide on a new one, been looking at Zurich and Sheilas Wheels in the missis name etc . Don't really like comparison sites because there isn't an option for UK ONLY call centres lol. Don't mind talking to foreigners who can be bothered to learn the local lingo if you get what I mean!

Well forget Zurich then. Call Centre is in India and they close at 2 pm on a Saturday.

TBH I've found most of the bigger names to be all much the same. If you go through their Approved Repairer claims are easier but when you insist on the Car going to a VX dealer it all seems to fall apart.

In my experience Direct Line are the best when making a claim but they are up to £200 a year more for me.

Well about 4 years ago I was insured with Admiral and everything was ok until I had an accident and they sent me to their approved repairers in my area. It was right on their 30 mile limit radius of a garage from my postcode (of which there are hundreds of car body shops within that radius) and what a set of cowboys that garage was. The job was done again six months down the line by another garage (at Admirals expense). So in my experience, Admirals approved repairers list were questionable at that time. Maybe improved now but I will not be given them another chance.

I pay £156 fully comp with Hastings Direct for my 56 plate 150cdti, and that includes £20 for extra legal cover and £18 for NC protection.
Which is a excellent price, but I have no idea whether they are any good when its comes down to making a claim. I was previously with Saga over 50, and they charged me £178 (same cover) but wanted £242 for the second year even though I had not claimed, hence my move to Hastings Direct.

In terms of who's best for price - well how long is a piece of string?! lol Quotes will be obviously be based partly on the car, but also your individual factors - postcode, age etc. etc. So when somebody says "Insurer X are the best for price", it may be for them but not for you. Until you run your details through their system you won't know.

In terms of who are good insurers to deal with, I can certainly recommend Direct Line. Call centres only in the UK which is great. I've had a couple of claims while being with them and they've been superb. No hassle with going to my own dealer/repairer, claims dealt with quickly etc. Basically how it should be and no extra stress added by anything they did/didn't do.

See, conversley, I would never use Direct Line again due to their total incompetence and ineptitude regarding a claim that should have been straight forward. Also, they cancelled our cover with no warning through no fault of our own, as their departments hadn't communicated with each other regarding our direct debit.

I use Elephant at the moment, my car is £284, Sharons is £195.
