    Question Servicing Advice

    All,

Having a few thoughts on my pending service:-

The car is three in May so i am tempted to service the car myself using genuine parts and oil which i reckon will cost me £50 tops. Oil & filter, diesel filter, pollen filter and air filter.

My local delaer has quoted £150 for a year three service which as far as i can see it's no more than they did last year for £120. Couple of advantages for the dealer is they will update the ecu via tech2 and i don't have to get my hands dirty.

What exactly is covered in year three of warranty (seperate thread) and is it worth me doing the job myself?

    Cheers for your thoughts,

    Paul.

Mind you one good warrenty claim would probably cost more than the service that you did your self, I personally would wait till the warrenty runs out unless some one can give us an accurate discription of what is acctually covered.

I do my own servicing all the time. Just get a good stamp if you know what I mean. Never in my life have I paid for a service.

If I've still got my car by then, I'll still be in the same pattern as I am now - dealer service every 20,000 miles, with an oil and filter change by me inbetween.

That way an expert gets to look at the car every now and then, and then the dealer can look after it the rest of the time...

My other car's eleven years old now but I still have a "professional" service with an independent just once a year (at MOT time). If that car does too many miles between, I change the oil and filter myself, plus I do the brakes and other "easy" jobs as they come up. This way I get the book stamped - I'm not sure for why, because old cars are worth nothing these days anyway and I don't presume a fully stamped-up service book counts for anything when the sheepskin coated mugger consults his Glasses Guide!
