Default PC World - worth a visit if you're after some computer stuff.

No, your eyes aren't deceiving you - I am recommending a visit to PC World, not something I'd normally do! lol

I was after a new cordless keyboard/mouse combo to replace the current Logitech one I had. Was working fine but was in need of an update, so I was looking at this one. As you can see it's RRP is £80 and what you'd pay if you walked into PC World and picked one up off the shelf.

Being that bit savvier, and Scottish! , I went to the PC World site to see if they had an online price and the option to collect it at the store for that item. They did, just shy of £60. I looked at the price on Dabs.com and it was only a couple of quid less, plus there was postage to still add to that - so I reserved it and headed off to collect it.

When I got there I noticed a poster in the entrance with gumph about them being determined not to be beaten on price and about price-matching stuff. "Yeah, yeah" I thought, probably lots of exclusions/exceptions etc. Anyway, I looked closer and was very pleasantly surprised!

Basically they will match a whole lot of online places, including places like Amazon, Dabs, Play, Misco etc. Full details here. The main criteria are that the item has to be in stock at the e-tailor and the price they (PC World) will match is the one that includes delivery. The only exceptions appeared to be TVs at a few of the retailers.

So, I logged onto Amazon on my iPAQ once I was in the store to see what price they had it for - £42 and some pence. It was in stock and with it being over £39 it also had free delivery! So off I headed to the customer services desk with item in hand to see about the price match. He checked Amazon, confirmed the price, knocked off the extra 10% of the difference so in the end cost me £40! Half the price of what it was on the shelves (not that I was going t pay that price! lol), £20 less then the online price and a few quid cheaper than Amazon, and I had it in my hands the same day!

So, all in all rather pleased! lol So if you're looking to buy some kit, have a good shufty around those sites listed to find the best price (including any delivery), make sure it's listed as in stick at the retailer then go into your local PC World and get it for 10% less of the difference between them and PC World.

I then walked around the store looking for anything else I might have wanted. Eyed up a couple of things I might be getting so I'll be looking up the prices of those in due course!

I don't know if it's a long-term thing or what, but certainly worth taking advantage of if you can.

PC World are always over priced. So few people do what you do, so well done on the result.

Yep, they always charge full whack for their stuff usually, which is why I always look at their website first to see if they have an online price and collect at store option for an item. If they don't, then I'll usually order it online - all depends what it is and postage costs etc.

In this case it's a no-brainer. You can get it the same day, assuming the store has it in stock, for less than the price of the best priced e-tailer listed in the ad.
