    Default 2.0t oil

    hi was just gonna top up my oil and looked in halfords guide it says use 15w30 so bought castrol 15w30, just looked through previous services and they have been using 10w40 even vauxhall, do you think i should empty all out then put new oil in or just top up

    Depends on how much your putting in. The oil should be either longlife 5-30 or the 10-40 thats in there. The 10-40w should be left no longer than 10k between changes imo.

    If you've bought 5ltrs of 15w 30,you may as well drop the oil to renew it,however if it's been serviced on a regular basis (ie yearly) using 10w40 semi synth..no reason why you could not continue to use this for annual service...the 15w30 fully synth though willl last much longer...approx 20,000 miles.

    So what oil is in it now then? If you're not sure then personally I'd drop the oil and pop in all fresh stuff. You don't want to be topping up with 15W30 if you don't know what's already in.

    I also wouldn't go by the Halfords guide either. 5W30 is the one I'd stick with for the 2.0T.

    I would stick with 10/40 as per Vx, & buy it from the dealers as I dont think you will find it cheaper elsewhere, why buy different grade oil than what the manufacturer states ?

    I get my oil and filter changed every 10000 miles at the vx dealers, Only costs £84.

    why not do it yourself, save some cash (around £60) & you know its done right!

    Cause I get a free coffee at the dealers They are good guys and do the job right, Have went to them for years and a guy I went to school with even works there. Ballyrobert vauxhall for the win
