Default Magnex Exhaust - Insurance hike

Well I got my Magnex exhaust fitted and rang insurers Liverpool Victoria to inform them of the "modification".

That'll be an additional premium of £56 sir.

Guess who won't be getting my business next year.

Because it's a performance enhancing MOD, not a massive boost in performance if any, but all insurers will raise the price with anything that improves performance.

That's just it. I don't detect any difference, apart from being noisier.

I rang direct line the other day to see how much they would add to my premium for some uprated and lowered springs they said it will £60 extra for the 9 months that are remaining on the policy as it will make the car more nickable.

I know, but unless you can prove it to them your stuck mate

You could have done before and after RR runs, but whether they accept it as being an accurate reading I don't know.

Its not just to do with performance its also to do with making the car more nickable.

Also if these mods are nicked you only get the standard parts back , im going back a few years now but that was the case with Admiral.

Fine with me, the Vauxhall system was c£700 whilst the Magnex was £380. Fitting and insurance has bumped that up to around £500 mind you.

Not that another picture of a Magnex exhaust is needed but it's the law apparently so here goes :
