    Angry Turbo Trouble

Last friday the turbo on my 2.2DTi Vectra gave up.

The amount of white smoke coming out of the exhaust was worse than the old london smogs of years ago. I was about half amile from home drove it home. On the Saturday the R.A.C. took the car to the Vauxhall garage.

A call from them today said that it was almost ready-----but.

It needs a new turbo and complete exhaust system. Apparently in the short drive home 4 Litres of oil passed through the turbo and out through the engine. Hence the fog of white smoke. They might be able to save the catalyser, but even so the bill is in the region of £1200.

I rang Vauxhall customer sevice to try and prise a goodwill payment towards the cost but as the car was first registered in March 2004 they flatly refused.
My argument was that the car has only done 37000 miles and has always been serviced by a Vauxhall garage and a major component like this should not fail at such a low mileage. No joy they would not budge.

Is there another avenue to follow to try for some part payment?

I will be interestd to hear your comments.

It's not something I've ever tried personally, but perhaps your local Citizens Advice might be of some use? Got to be worth a try, for the price.

Is it the best option to go to VX? If the catalyst has been killed, why are they replacing the exhaust system?? I would have thought it unneccessary to change metal work if the cat is OK.

I would try contacting Vauxhall's head office. I had numerous problems with a calibra turbo years back, and I was able to get them to pay 50% of the cost.
    Worth a try

I think the Customer Services he's referring to are indeed based at VX Luton.

The offices are based in Luton, but you usually end up talking to someone elsewhere in Europe.
Try again, but push harder. they always say no the first time! Took me several attempts to get them to pay for my rear shocks.
