    Question Kielder Castle?

Kielder Castle - is it worth a visit, does anybody know? I've had a look online but the web presence seems a little content-light. Is it worth having a look round there? I'm planning on having a trip up to Kielder with the missus some time this week. Cheers.

I've never been to the castle, but the dam and surrounding area are lovely.

Yes, it's somewhere I've been a lot on two wheels in the past. Currently saving up for a new (old) bike

You probably came across this link? If not, it has a bit of info. As you say though, no real in-depth content coming up that I saw.

We've been and I remember absolutley zilch about it. It was one of may places we went to a few years ago in Kielder on a Mountain Bike holiday.

As for the Kielder area itself I loved it. We stayed right next to the reservoir so it was like being in the lakes but without the people or traffic.

As said already though the midges in the forest are legendary. I was cleaning the bikes next to the lodge around 6 pm when they suddenly arrived in attack mode. Horrendous.

The locals all seemed to drive like they competing on a rally stage. No matter how fast you go they overtake you. Would definiatly go again though.

fruit and nut, went to the castle part last year and the visitor centre, (with kids) its ok for a look around and the kids enjoyed the wildlife there, blue tits other types of birds and of course squirrels. there is also a maze made out of glass quite good. took my old saxo VTS and had a blast along the forest route pay £1 and get a ticket and blast along the old leg of the network Q rally stage. its mint but not advisable if you want to keep your car nice and stone chip free. nice drive even done slowly though. HTH and have a nicetime up there.

Well, we went, had a nice drive about and stopped for a butty and cuppa at the visitors centre (£3 just to park! Is that a recent introduction? ) but didn't bother stopping at the castle. I might give it a try another time.

Anyway, we went up via Heddon-on-the-Wall, Chollerton and Bellingham with a break at the side of the lake before passing through Kielder village, over the border into Scotland then picking up the A6088 at Cleuch Head and heading back towards civilisation on the A68 at Carter Bar

For those of you with maps/Streetmap, the B6357 south of Cleuch Head appears to have been recently resurfaced and was almost deserted too. Just watch out for the sheep along the lower stretches!
