    Default Recomendation on Tyres please

    Hi There,

I have just purchased a Vectra 2.8t v6 Elite auto which have 215x50 r17 tyres of which 2 are needing replacement.

Can anyone recomend a reasonably good but cost effective tyre or where I can buy a set of cheap \ discounted tyres?

    Many Thanks
    James

Change to 225/45/17's. Much better choice and they are cheaper. They are a VX alternative size so no issues with the speedo or anything.

This is one of the key things when looking at a car, check what tyres it has and how much they are to replace

What is the speed and load rating of the current 215/50 R17 tyres?

You are right to ask around first. I have just replaced tyres on my SRI Estate. The originals were 235x35x19 Continentals but the replacement cost was stupid around £170 each. I changed to Uniroyal Rainsport around £140 each and used these a few times they were fine. The latest I have fitted were around £100 each I did no research just told the tyre fitter to find me something reasonable. They are rubbish. They are just about acceptable in the dry but in the wet they border on being dangerous. If I had the money I would throw them away and go back to a decent brand. The car will even break traction on a smooth wet surface in fourth gear! And no its not a V6 just a diesel 150 CDTI. If you want to know what not to buy stay clear of CLEAR (that's the name 'Clear', stupid name as well) I can't wait to get rid of them.
You get what you pay for.
