I installed a system for the Father-in-law a while back when cars outside his house were getting scratched at night. It showed who was responsible and it was soon stopped.

in regards to the system (i presume you had good quality images) did the image go to a DVR, video or PC ? & how easy was it to view & make a copy of the image?

At work all our systems go to hard drives
To comply with regulations they also have logs
After 30 days the data is deleted

At home the system uses a multiplexer
There is no need to comply with any regulations, providing the camera is fixed

Yeah we've got CCTV, had it just over a year now, off the top of my head the 2 520 line cameras were around £160 ea, the dvr was about £390 and the other camera's were around £90 ea.. cost is all down to quality of camera's, i opted for Sony chips in ours as they came highly recommended, the quality is brilliant, the 2 expensive cameras work really well in night vision aswell, the large open area at the side of the house is really clear and visible at night.. We have just 4 camera's now connected to a 6 channel DVR with a 500gb hard drive, it also gets connected to the router when we go on hols, all the cameras are motion activated rather than just on 24hr's a day (saves a lot of disc space) i bought them when some little scrote smashed a window in my works car because they thought i was daft enough to leave the tomtom in there!!! the local police know we have it and have so far asked 2 times if they could have a look through the recordings when there has been an incident in the otherwise quiet village, last time they knocked was because our 90yr old neighbour was burgled whilst she was still at home, our cctv caught the little scrote running past our house, the police were well happy with what they saw, we burned them a dvd with around 4 hours of footage (so they could see if he had been lurking around beforehand)

If your going to get it, go for the best you can, you'll notice the difference in camera picture quality..

we were told by our local neighbourhood watch co ordinator (who asked the police) that we had to notify neighbours that we were recording them and if they objected we had to block that area off, ie: not allow recording of certain areas of the cameras view, which is easy to do in the motion detection setup. luckily our neighbours were happy to make use of our cctv.. we also had to put up cctv signs to notify people that they were being recorded...

Providing your camera system is within your property then you can do pretty much what you like

What is not permitted, and hence requires notification to the local authority :
    moving cameras
cameras mounted on the external of the building, which overhang either the public pavement, adjacement property, or similar

Also providing you are using it for personal use, no need for any signage

I had had one for about 4 years now, the main reason for getting it at the time was firstly because I had a Cavalier at the time and some w4nk3r kept choping my fuel pipe and nicking all my fuel....3 times in two weeks, secondly, my neighbour got burgled so didnt want to take a chance. Dont really know if its a deterrent but it certainly gives me and the family a little bit of piece of mind!

    Bye bye Vec B
