Default lost power after double nudging cruise control

Apply your wisdom to this please :
Driving up the A41 from M54 J3 at a steady 50mph on cruise control and decided to nudge the speed up. I do this alot ( nudging speed on cruise control )as my daily commute is up the M42.

So I 'double nudged' the cruise control up to increase speed. next thing I lost power, the spanner light came on, limp mode, smoke coming out the back - I had that sinking feeling that the engine had gone up in smoke.

    btw I have a 53 2.0di vectra estate, 59k on the clock.

green flag came out and checked the turbo inlet and outlet, but saw nothing significant. Oil level was also fine. Then they started the car and it was fine! No light, a little smoke under high revs.

I drove home, staying off the motorway and trying to stay off the turbo, it took 35mins at about 40mph. The next day I called two vauxhall dealers and an independant and after much discussion they concluded nothing was seriously wrong or the spanner light would stay permanently on, which it hasn't.

So I took it and and accelerated enthusiasticaly to test the turbo - no problems. I tryed the cruise control - no problems - but I haven't tried 'double nudging' the cruise up. I have 'single nudged' it up with no problems.

Anybody else experienced anything like this? Dodgy diesel or cruise control messing up the fuel mix somehow?

I'd be very grateful for your opinions.

I wouldn't worry unless it keeps comming on, mine has done something similar in the past but unless it stays on, forget it
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Why double nudge the cruise control?
Hold and press down the upper button until the required speed is reached, then release

you double nudge if you need a small increase, he has a more powerful engine than you - so he must be careful.

yours takes so long to speed up you never get to double nudge.......

When i had my dti it done the exact same thing when i used cruise control . After that whenever i went on a long run it woud come on after about 40 miles on the motorway & start smoking, even if i did'nt use cruise control. If i pulled over & turned the engine off then started it back up it would clear. It was just before i traded it in for my new one so never botherd getting it looked into.

I have to agree though, I can react faster than the cruise control!

If I am in third gear at 50mph, then yes simply tapping the increase button will work fine
However, in sixth gear it is a definite press and hold operation
As a result, it is quicker to press the gas full on, release the gas when the speed is nearly achieved, then press the increase button to hold that speed
