    Default rotating wheels...

stopped into my Kwik Fit today and asked the guy behind the counter if he could rotate my tyres for me, he said that he could fit me in but it would cost me £21 in order to balance the wheels!!

do the wheels need re-balancing or is he just trying to rip me off??

Doug - when you rotated yours did you have them balanced afterwards?

no they do not need balanacing, wheels are balanced off the car, so that the inperfections in the tyres and wheels are corrected. doesnt matter what corner they go back on

cheers lads, thats what i thought! i would change them at home but have just been put off by gsi3.2's nightmare of a story about getting the wheels off mrsgsi's vectra.

it'd take them five minutes whereas it'd take me half an hour. plus, i've only got one trolley jack

so it must've been kwik fit wanting to make a quick buck...what a surprise!!!

need to get them changed before santa pod!!

    Harry,

He's having you on mate.. They don't balance the wheels on the car do they??

It doesn't matter where they're fitted on the car, just the fact that the wheel and tyre are in balance with each other.. Trust me on this..

When I had a dreadful VW Passat last year, it went into the VW stealer for a full brake pad change. I said to the service manager, "whilst you've got all the wheels off, can you rotate the front wheels to the back ones", thinking that this would be easy for them, as they would have the car on a lifting ramp with the wheels off anyway.
They only charged me £ 8 per wheel + Vat for the pleasure. When I complained they told me it was for the time taken to pick a wheel up at the front of the car and move it to the back of the car.
It was company money not my own but it still stinks.
I can't imagine my local Vx dealer doing that.

Oh, by the way. The bill for changing the brake pads on all 4 wheels + wheel rotation came in at £ 244.00 + VAT.
The robbing b****ds and I told them so. VW quality, not in my experience.

I rotate my wheels in a big tesco car park, stops any high pressure damage to my driveway and safer than doing it in the road.
