Default really liking the 2.2 direct engine

as above having owned my signum with the above engine since march i can honestly say this is a very good engine indeed fairly quick, very smooth and reasonable fuel economy 30mpg about town i thought it would feel really slow after owning a boxed cdti before but it is no slouch dont get me wrong a bit more power is always a good thing but for now im not bothered as theres more body mods too come first so i for one can recommend this engine and feel that it is somewhat under rated although i would prefer if the gearboxes were rod instead of cable operated as quickshifting is almost impossible lol

I'm gonna snap one of my cables soon!!! LOL
You can quickshift actually, that said the revs need to be spot on,by jimney when they are though the car lurches forward!!! lol,it's like a different beast all of a sudden, couldn't agree more though absolutely top engine, and the noise it makes with me 'ol BMC panel filter in tow when revved is flippin marvellous! When it comes to sexy sounds its Petrol for me any day of the week!

I just hated the lack of torque... Always had to change to at least third tp accelerate...

It's a sweet engine for sure. Very smooth and reliable. The weight of the vec doesn't help for lazy driving with this engine, but it's quick enough if you drop the box.
Very different engines throughout the Vec range to cater for all. Some with the torque at low revs, some high revvers like this one.

2.8T is my pick of the bunch.

Its not bad for a N/A petrol. With it having the exact bore size as the 2.0T, the only thing that makes it a 2.2 is the longer stroke so unfortunately it makes it lazy low down. Makes it a good motorway flyer though, with good pull up high. A good zorst manifold gives great results with an imported Weapon R system showing a good 12-15 bhp on a stock engine.

Glad you like the 2.2 Pogo, its nice to here an ex CDTi man giving the up to our underrated lump.

Oh yes, and dont forget the reliability factor we have over our sooty brothers

It is indeed a superb engine. Very underrated on here in my opinion. It's quick, smooth and sounds great. I love it

Yep, tis a good strong reliable engine. I had one for 2 years just after it came out on an 04 plate. Was quicker than my previous 2.0 Mondeo. Quite torquey, if you rev it. And economical too.

There is always one isn't there

I had one for a little while too. It would be my pick of the bunch next time - maybe. No 60k turbo worries if it doesn't have one
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Mines a '53 non-direct 2.2 and have to say I agree with all the comments mentioned and even down to the economy as I'm getting around the 30 mpg mark even out of a non-direct!!
    Cheers Pete
