    Default Creaking/clicking noise

Can anyone help in solving a particularly annoying problem?

When driving, there is a loud cracking/clicking coming from the rear of my 2002 Vectra 'C' SRi 5-door, at both sides of the car. I've already been back at my VX dealer on 3 occasions during the past few weeks, and on each visit a different solution has been attempted, but without any success whatsoever.

All 3 VX field remedies relating to this problem have been put in place (1514-rear backrest hinge; 1515-rear backrest lock; and 1516-'C' pillar cracking noise) and the rear tailgate has been adjusted, but the noise remains as before.

It is starting to drive me mad, so any advice would be gratefully received. Please, no 'turn stereo up' suggestions!!!!!

    Thanks

    Gordon

Sound's a little off the wall , but ask the tech if he'd mind travelling in the back of the car to see if he can hear the noise whislt the car is moving. It's often the bet way to track thing's like this down..

My first thoughts were the 'C Pillar' or 'Boot Catch', but you've covered them. This may be a new one on me. Is it only when there's weight in the back or does it happen all the time?

I'd do as Mark suggested and get the Vx tech to travel in the rear. Can't hurt can it?

Someone will be along with some more suggestions soon I'm sure.

As above, my first thought was the C-pillar until I read further into your post. Can't think of anything else that is known.

I'd suggest that as well. Did it when I was getting thumping/banging from the back of mine and I was convinced it was suspension. Went for another spin with the Workshop Foreman in the back and he heard it better. Result was I had a leaking Irmscher shock so got the pair replaced.

No harm in asking them. Hope you get it sorted and interested to find out what it is if you do get to the bottom of it.

Many thanks for the replies and suggestions.

On my last visit to VX last week, the workshop foreman went out for a drive with me. When he heard the noise, he suggested carrying out field remedy 1516-'C' pillar cracking noise, because the other 2 related field remedies had already been done.

When I collected my car, FR1516 had been done and also my 2 rear shocks had been replaced because 1 of them was apparently 'weeping' , probably because of the ****in cracking noise!!!!!!! No charge, as the car is still under Network Q, but they have run out of ideas as to a possible solution.

Would it be worth trying a different VX dealer? If so, would this kind of thing be covered under Network Q?

    UPDATE

Phoned VX dealer a short while ago regarding this problem and they've just called me back. Bodyshop manager has contacted VX's Technical dept for advice and to cut a long story short, my car is going back in on Wednesday to hopefully have this problem sorted out once-and-for-all.

VX advice was to put 2 extra rivets, 1 on either side, beside every spot weld in the area where the noise is coming from. The theory behind this is that the extra rivets will back-up the spot welds and stop all movement between body panels. Although the dealer has never encountered this problem as bad before, VX have apparently told them that it is a fairly common problem on Veccy 'C's up to MY03.5, when the spot weld locations were modified at the factory.

As well as the 3 field remedies already carried out, the hinge pins on the tailgate were also replaced last week as there was found to be slight play in them.

Will let you all know if the problem has been solved when I get my car back on Thursday hopefully.

Sounds like your dealer has been on the case with this, suggesting and implementing Field Remedies and contacting Vx - rather than just shrugging their shoulders! All credit to them. You asked earlier if you should try another dealer. I'd say deffo No - they seem to have been doing everything they can.

Hope the extra rivets thing does the trick for you.
