    Default Insurance policy

Just renewed my insurance (with a new insurer.) Old insurer wants me to send proof of new insurance policy. I don't mind doing this, me thinks they are trying to work out whether I still owe them money from the point their automated re-insurance kicked-in, to the point where my new policy started.

But at the same time there's the small voice in me 'ed saying 'don't do it, you know they'll find some excuse to charge you for leaving them.' I don't think there's a legal issue here, but can they demand this info?

...please send us a copy of your new insurance certificate or a Bill Of Sale. If neither of these are relevant to you, we may be able to take into consideration any proof you may have that the insurance we provided was not required.

If you do not wish to send us a copy of your new insurance details, please contact us with the name of your new insurer, the policy number and their telephone number. We can then contact them to ensure we backdate the
cancellation of your policy to the correct date.

Exactly, neverlandandy. It seems like an odd request. I've never had one like this before.

Sounds like the old policy has been cancelled early, instead of informing them that you will not be renewing on its expiry...

Not at all, it expired on time, as did the debit card that was used to pay for the policy to begin with. Once I saw the renewal quote I knew I could do better elsewhere. Ever since I've been getting letters requesting new card details. I've since spoken with them, but they can't seem accept the fact that I'm with a new insurer.

Unless you are claiming a rebate, tell them to take a hike, the only need for them is to provide proof of no claims bonus.

Don't do it, it's got nothing to do with them.

If they continue to hassle you for it, inform them that you consider it harrassment, and ask if it is company policy to harrass ex customers.
