Thumbs down Not liking my new brakes anymore

    Following this......
    http://forum.vectra-c.com/showthread.php?t=52064

Today I was accelerating hard an a stupid car changed lanes suddenly....had to step on the brakes hard and to my surprise the beast did not slow down as it used to....was ***king scary...put my hole strength on the pedal and it was hard and suddenly it became...softer....slowly the car slowed down...no ABS by the way! At the end nothing happened.
Then on an empty street did the same thing..accelerated and suddenly hit on the brakes....same result....not an effective quick stop as it used to be....I always complained on the ABS hitting to early but know it kicks near the end and requires my hole strenght on the brakes.

Do you think the new pads are crap or is it something else?

I had my front brake pads renewed and what a difference
The wear indicator first came on in the middle of June and was booked in, but yet again the wrong parts arrived
Last week the wear indicator stopped appearing, making me suspicious that it had in fact burnt through!
This morning it looked as if there was between 0.5 and 1.0mm of brake material left

The difference is amazing, even the lightest touch on the brakes and the reduction in speed is what I would normally expect

How many miles since you changed the pads?
If less than 200 miles it could just be bedding in?
Was it just pads being changed or other bits as well?

More than a couple hundred miles and I'd agree with mushy that maybe they need bleeding.

What he said Bled mine when fitting, took half a pint out iof each corner to on the safe side and also change the brake oil. Bled the clutch also.

Thanks chaps for the replies.....yes I do have a spongy feel....and I don't think the pads are glazed...I was careful not to, and by this time and miles runned on the new pads they should be "settled" by now....
Two things jump to mind that you have mentioned.....I might need to change the brake fluid and or....maybe I have air in the system...I don't recall the guy that did the service purged the system...tho he only changed pads and rectifyed disks...don't know how air could have entered the system.
I will go back to the shop and purge the system for any air...if its still the same I will change the fluid...if that does not work...well the pads are crap and i will look for a different brand.

Good news on this side...yeaup! a purge on the system did the trick....now when the beast stops I feel my eyes poping out and my guts pulling forward
BTW the stock brake system on this is really good IMO, with this new pads the thing stops really good and the ABS now kicks in just when its needed, not like before, that 95% of the hard braking involved the ABS
