Talking I've been tinkering again...test fitting the new throttle body

    Hi all,

Decided it was about time I test fitted the new throttle body, which is 10mm bigger than the standard 58mm, making it a nice big 68mm whopper!

It started first time with no EML, blipped the throttle a few times, took a while to come back down the revs, but I think before I drive it I should pull the battery off for half an hour to reset the ecu. It was also idling higher, but again, I am sure I have read that this was happening to someone else and they reset the ecu and it was fine. But no warning lights has got to be good!

I put the standard one back on after as I am going to be doing a bit of travelling for work so wanted to make sure if there are going to be any problems, its best they happen when I am local!

Here's some piccies, I had some adaptor plates custom made to give me some clearance between the inlet manifold and the plug unit (which is located underneath the TB, not on top like the standard one...

The tape around the pipe is because that one has a hole in it as it was fitted to an Astra which has to have an air temp sensor fitted. This is a temporary measure, I have a new pipe but it needs cutting to length.

    Comments welcome as always

you will have to update once you have had a play. I did a similar mod when I had my mini, made a HUGE difference in throttle response.

Like your cam breather idea Good work mate, that intake pipe does look good though. My 2.4 tb idled higher, think thats just because more air is getting through, but as you know as soon as I put it under load it went into limp. Was fully expected, but from what we know your 2.0SC TB shouldnt do this, so it will be a shock if it does. Cant believe you didnt run it round the block.

Got another stupid idea for you, PM on way.

I was working in the garage, and I hadn't got the oil catch tank fitted (it was actually on the floor, which is where the breather pipe went to . And I need to cut the new alu pipe with the breather adaptor on it, it is too long currently. So I couldn't drive it anywhere. Will try and get the catch tank fitted the weekend. But the idea of putting the new air filter the other side would mean having to move it to where the airbox is now (it never stops does it)!

I say it was idling higher, but not by much (would guess 850-900rpm), I looked at the computer though and instead of settling at 0.2 g/hr it was on 0.5 g/hr but again I'm hoping a reset would cure this.
