    Default Buying Advice

    Hello all, just after a bit of advice/any thoughts. My brother is looking to buy an LPG motor, he does loads of miles to and from work each day and same as everyone else is feeling the cost of fuel (currently running a mark 4 Golf GT TDI) it does good MPG but still costing a fortune. Since looking around he is finding quite a few Veccys that are already converted. He is looking at a 1.8 SRI 53 plate but has 93k on the clock.

    So the question is, would this kind of mileage be an issue on this engine? Also are there any things he should look out for, common faults are anything else?

    Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks a lot

    Everyone is feeling the pinch of the fuel prices that god it has finally stopped going up (for a while).

    I think everyone is getting a diesel or LPG to "save money" and whilst they can see it will save money on fuel the initial outlay is more. Petrol cars have seen a bigger drop in prices than their counterparts and this difference makes it hard to work out if you will save and by how much etc.

    I had the same thing whilst buying my car a few months ago. Diesel equivalents were nearly £1000 more so I went for a petrol but I only do 8k/yr. I think the 1.8 is a bit too slow so, I would suggest a 1.9 150 if he is doing big miles.

    What about buying the 1.8 LPG, and then filling the LPG tank with nitrous instead....? lol

    apart from cambelt/tyres/exhaust etc 93K should not be a problem - although if you are doing lots of miles then change the oil often. I should expect that you should not have to do anything to the engine (as with most cars) until at least 150K
