Default Turbo Technics - CRAP Service AVOID! like the Plague

In the light of my previous posts, we stripped the engine of my Sri Petrol Turbo down and found the valve seals were "tired" so they were replaced, also found the Turbo seals on the exhaust side of the Trubo gone, so it was dumping pure oil stright into th exhaust.

MY ISSUE through is with turbo technics, they are supposed to be the best, so called them and midland trubo's for a quote for rebuild.

Rebuild £175+vat at Midland and Turbo technics, exchange was ball parking at about £400 inc vat.

Sent trubo off to Turbo technics issues

    1) they were supposed to call and advise what work was required, not a word, had to chase them twice this was a week after they had it was supposed to be a four day turnaround

    2) Eventually advise the "core" was knackerd and low and behold the price was now £570 to recon my mine!

called a midland back and they advised the circa £400 price they quoted was the max, even called vauxhall and a new turbo from them Non exchange was only £540, another company quoted £385+vat for a new one outright.

Well gutted at this point, then had a look on ebay, found a brand new complete turbo off a vectra 2.0 which had never been used, the guys i bought it from used to race touring cars and had a new vectra back in 05 deleived, the standard turbo unit was jucked and replaced with a bigger one, so this unit had been sitting in his workshop since then. The best bit was it came with all the bits and a bargain price of £175 collected it yesterday and its being fitted today.

Will take great pleasure in telling Turbo technics where to stick mine IF they ever bother to call me back.

My advise to anyone, go to Midland turbo's in Nottingham! if need arise and dont forget Ebay.

    Rant over!

    Hang on....

So your gripes are that they didn't call you, which is fair enough, but to slag them off to this extent just because they've quoted you more than someone else?

Yeah but shouldnt they have advised him to just get a new turbo for the price anyway? Surely some work ethics should have kicked in?

My question is... What are you going to do when they DO call and say its ready and where'e our money for the work carried out?

I can understand his vent, as long as there's nothing hiding in the background, morale of the story is always call VX 1st and then shop about.

Reading between the lines, his main gripe is very poor customer service.

Had something similar happen to me, was quoted for something to be fitted to the car then they decided it was more work then they first thought so I had to pay more They knew what the work was and if they were good at their business shouldn't really need to see it in the first place.

A different story, but similar experience.

Yep, they're the ones that I used as per this thread - absolute pleasure to deal with and did a superb job on my turbo. I wouldn't go to anyone else with turbo work and they would get my business again if I needed anything done on a turbo.

I can't comment on the original poster's experience as obviously we don't know all the facts i.e. from both sides. All I will say is that TT are a hugely respected company, specialists in their field and I've only heard good things about them - which is why I went to them when I needed my turbo looked at.

Obviously, as can happen in any company no matter how good there are, there are sometimes hiccups/co*k ups etc. and this sounds like what may have happened with you, but it's most certainly not the normal service from TT - far from it.
