Default New tyres front or rear ?

Hi all, not sure if this question has been asked before so appologies if it has.
If you need a pair of tyres should you put them on the back and or the front ?

Been reading a lot about it on the web and the concensus seems to be put them on the rear. Now it seems most of the articles i've read are supported by tyre manaufactures...with cynical head on me thinks this could this be more about generating more trade as the fronts wear out quicker...what do you think or from experience what have you found ?

The safest way is to put them in the front because it's FWD.

It could seem like a ploy but it's to do with handling, put new on the rear as this is best.

watched this very issue on 5th gear.

if you put them on the back the front grips really well but you can get the back to wash out without any warning.

if you put them on the back, you can tell if you are lacking grip on the steering when pushing hard.

if you have less front grip its easier to back off, if you see what i mean.

My vec has done 48k now, and the original set are still on the rear
They have lots of wear left too.
