    Default Looking at buying a 2003 2.2 DTI - Signum - What do I look out for>

    As title really boys and girls. I'm looking at changing my thirsty, battered but much loved Pug 406 3.0V6 and the Signum ticks all the boxes.
    I like that it is different.
    I like that it is big
    I like that it seems an awful lot of car for the money.

    What should i look out for? it has done 62k miles, FSH, can't find a dent or scratch on it, needs some tyres but other than that seems mint! It's got towbar and electrics for a caravan, but doesn't show any signs of heavy towing.
    It's up for a smidge under 4 grand.
    Anything that I should know before comitting?

    I have the same engine in a vectra and i wish i had got the cdti not the dti.

    even if you get the 120 cdti. its more efficient and you can always chip it when ready.

    the dti is alot harder.

    mind you i have out accelerated a 120 version easily so it cant be all bad.

    I like my dti. would of liked more power but very happy with the engine. the only thing i would say to look out for is the dread limp home mode and maybe the timing chain. If it rattles when the engine is warm and idle get them to sort it out. with limp home mode, no real cure for it. just make sure the boost sensor is clean

    i have a 2.2 DTi siggy had a few niggles with the boost sensor but it only takes minutes to take out and clean. Reasonably quick as most of them put out more than the 123bhp they quoted , and good on consumption too i never been below 40mpg even when given some wellie

    Had a drive in it yesterday and was astonished at how quiet it was all the time to be fair. Only when really pushed did it sound like a diesel to me, but then it is a fair few years since i've driven diesels.

    tbh i'm happy to sacrifice the extra performance of the CDTI for the fact that this one is cheap and there is more chance of me being able to run it on veggie oil!

    Any advice how to clean the boost sensor?

    I refuse to comment on that engine, however I would urge you to look at some of the threads I have started about my Siggy 2.2Dti.

    Diesel pump alone is £2500.
