    Default Good news/Bad news!

Time for a bit of a rant on a topic which I suspect will probably spark some debate.

I was working away in London a couple of weeks ago, when I received a very exciting phone call from my manager telling me that the results of our annual appraisals had been received - she opened my letter for me and confirmed that I had received a 9% payrise, and a 9% bonus (paid in 2 instalments, one in July's pay packet and one in December's) Good so far? Oh yes, very happy nice to get the money, but also after 2 very intense years, brilliant to finally have it all recognised. Much smug faced satisfaction

    HOWEVER.............................

Received my wage slip this week - had made a few mental calculations, realised Mr Tax Man will more than likely be helping himself to his 'fair share' (ahem ) but OH MY GOD....total deductions £900!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Talk about giving it with one hand and taking it away with the other - how on earth can that be justified?? That's pretty much the amount of my so called bonus!!! To say I was gutted is an understatement - okay, I know tax is a part of life blah blah blah, but this is SO wrong!!

Sometimes makes me wonder why I bother. I doubt very much I shall see the fruits of my deductions unless I become a one legged single teenage lesbian mum

Last year I did £6k in overtime, and when added to my basic, the over time didn't even cover the amount of tax I paid over the year for my basic salary, so looking at it one way, ALL the OT I did went straight to the government in Tax

What was Chris asking to do the other week Mrs D.
Take him up on it and get on the plane to NZ. "Not that i want to see you go"
We get robbed every time we open our eye's on a morning, Thinking about it even in our sleep.
This country is bleeding us all dry.

Good job Mr Brown getts no tax from me. Only about 280 quid a month Stamp. And i still feel screwed.

as a courier, my basic is around £18,000..
I f it wasn't for doing around 15 hrs per week in O/T, then I would not be able to survive
Basically, the O/T just tops my wage back up to what it would be if I wasn't taxed
IMO, YOU SHOULD NOT BE TAXED ON ANY O/T OR BONUSES!!!!!
they have already fleeced you in the respect of your salary, so you should be allowed to earn O/T free of taxes!
