Time for a bit of a rant on a topic which I suspect will probably spark some debate.
I was working away in London a couple of weeks ago, when I received a very exciting phone call from my manager telling me that the results of our annual appraisals had been received - she opened my letter for me and confirmed that I had received a 9% payrise, and a 9% bonus (paid in 2 instalments, one in July's pay packet and one in December's) Good so far? Oh yes, very happy nice to get the money, but also after 2 very intense years, brilliant to finally have it all recognised. Much smug faced satisfaction
Received my wage slip this week - had made a few mental calculations, realised Mr Tax Man will more than likely be helping himself to his 'fair share' (ahem ) but OH MY GOD....total deductions £900!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Talk about giving it with one hand and taking it away with the other - how on earth can that be justified?? That's pretty much the amount of my so called bonus!!! To say I was gutted is an understatement - okay, I know tax is a part of life blah blah blah, but this is SO wrong!!
Sometimes makes me wonder why I bother. I doubt very much I shall see the fruits of my deductions unless I become a one legged single teenage lesbian mum
